If you are Dreaming of a White Christmas…You may be in Luck!

Historically, Spokane is one of the more likely cities to enjoy a White Christmas.  So, what is the probability of having a white blanket on the ground around here on December 25th.  It turns out to be 57% likely.  The key to our success in this area is that we live well inland in the Evergreen State.

So, what about our neighbor to the east Coeur D’Alene?  The Idaho side of this scenario is a straight up 50/50.  Technically speaking, if there is at least one inch of snow on the ground on Christmas Day it is considered a “White Christmas”.  Not so long ago in 2008 there was 20 inches of snow on the ground in Spokane on Christmas Day!

Whatever the weatherman has in store for us this holiday season, we at A River City Plumbing will be here to service your needs during the holidays in 2019 and beyond.  When you need us, we will be there to service your plumbing needs.  Please visit our website at www.arivercityplumbingservice.com.  From all of us Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

What is Hydronic Heating?

Hydronics is defined as the use of a liquid heat-transfer medium in heating and cooling systems for your home or office.  The working fluid is typically water, glycol, or mineral oil.  Some of the oldest and most common examples are steam and hot-water radiators.  Your hydronic system moves through sealed pipes to radiators located throughout your home.

There are three types of hydronic heating –

1.  Baseboard…popularly referred to as hot water baseboard.
2.  Hydronic radiant floor…the entire finished floor serves as a radiator.
3.  Hydro-air heating which requires ductwork.

All of this leads us to right place to call when you are considering a hydronic heating system.  That is A River City Plumbing.  They have been serving the heating, cooling, and plumbing needs of Coeur d’Alene and Spokane for many years.  Just give them a call to discuss the viability of hydronic heating.  Check out arivercityplumbingservice.com for the right number.

Frozen Pipes May Not Be Far Ahead.

You know it’s coming.  With the onset of winter next month, temperatures around Spokane and Coeur D’Alene will hit the freezing mark.  It is a simple fact…when water freezes it expands.  That expansion can cause ruptures.  Damage often occurs not at the point where a pipe has frozen, but between the freeze and a faucet.

Pipes that run through exterior walls are at particular risk, but those that run through uninsulated attics and crawlspaces can also freeze.  Poor insulation will probably increase the risk of bursting pipes.  If you need help making improvements to prevent frozen pipes, contact a licensed builder or plumber.

In Eastern Washington and Northwest Idaho the answer, as always is River City Plumbing.  The professional plumbers at River City will come to your home or business and troubleshoot or repair pipes that have or are about to burst from the upcoming frigid weather.  Those phone numbers are (509) 954-6567 in Spokane or (208) 659-6565 in Coeur D’Alene.

Bathroom Remodeling 101.

If you are a DIY guy (or gal) you might think that bathroom remodeling is just another project.  Remodeling bathrooms is a whole different world!  What could go wrong?  Remodeling bathrooms is an intricate process that requires a lot of know-how.  Some bathroom renovations even take an entire team of contractors and subcontractors.

Questions you should ask of yourself –

1.  What level of remodeling skills do you have?
2.  Think twice about doing your own plumbing or electrical work.
3.  Be creative and share your ideas with your contractor.
4.  Don’t forget about the all-important inspections and codes…they can trip you up.

When the project has concluded you want to have bathrooms in your home that add beauty and value to your castle.  If you make a well-intended mess of the project the opposite may occur!  That’s why you call A River City Plumbing for bathroom remodeling.  Here are the phone numbers…(509) 954-6567 in Spokane or (208) 659-6565 in Coeur D’Alene.

Boil Me Up Some Heat.

You are already saying that or will be soon in the Spokane and Coeur D’Alene area.  Here is a question; when was the last time you had your boiler serviced or replaced?  Here are a couple of other questions; have you recently moved into your house and what do you know about the condition of your boiler?

The average boiler lasts around a decade and a half if it is well maintained and although a yearly service can improve the lifespan, an older boiler has to work harder to heat your home. So, if your boiler needs replacing it could be costing you EVEN MORE money as the energy efficiency is reduced and there is a danger that they are not safe.

Maybe it is time to call in the experts!  We are A River City Plumbing serving Southeast Washington and Northwest Idaho for many years as your boiler repair and replacement professionals.  Don’t make the mistake of thinking that your home’s boiler will just keep cranking along!  Call us at (509) 954-6567 in Spokane or (208) 659-6565 in Coeur D’Alene.

Severe Swings in Weather Affect Water Main Installation.

If your goal is trying to install a new water main in your home or business, then you want to be sure it's done right the first time…guaranteed!  Weather, as it changes throughout the seasons, must be factored in.  Common methods for installing water lines are trenching and trenchless.  Find someone with residential and commercial experience.

The team that you hire in the diverse climate of Southeast Washington and Northwest Idaho must have a strong reputation with water line installation in existing homes, new construction, or any of the larger commercial operations of Spokane or Coeur D’Alene.  Do not let an amateur or newbie do the job just because it may be a bit cheaper!

Replacement or repair of water lines can be routine or a mammoth undertaking depending on the where and the when.  We will come to your home or place of business and repair or replace them after carefully assessing the proper strategy.  We are A River City Plumbing handling plumbing problems throughout Spokane and Coeur D’Alene.  Call us at (509) 954-6567 in Spokane or (208) 659-6565 in Coeur D’Alene.

I Wish you Wouldn’t do That!

Do I sound like your mother now?  It’s just that plumbers from coast to coast urge you not to do some of the things that you do to your toilet in an attempt to fix it.  So, your toilet’s clogged again, and this time it’s all your fault.  You did what?  You flushed kitty litter down there?  Don’t be embarrassed.  You are not the first nor will you be the last to do so.

Here are some things that we wish you would NOT do –

1.  Reach for the Drano.  It rarely works in situations like this.
2.  Don’t treat your toilet like a garbage can.
3.  Do not use drop-in toilet fresheners.  They contain chemicals that wear out the tank.
4.  You think that you are a licensed plumber.

We understand, most homeowners like to feel that they can fix all of their toilet problems themselves.  Please call us before you make matters worse with your toilet and maybe your entire bathroom.  We are A River City Plumbing solving your plumbing problems in Eastern Washington and Northwest Idaho for many years.  Please call us at (509) 954-6567 in Spokane or (208) 659-6565 in Coeur D’Alene.

I’m Tired of Looking at this Old Bathroom.

The summer is drawing to a close and you will be spending more time indoors.  What better time to turn your attention to the most frequently used room in your home…your bathroom?  It’s important to not only visualize the project, but know all that can go wrong before taking that big renovation step.

Here are some bathroom remodeling stages –

1.  What do you want?  What do you need?
2.  Have a budget not just for the entire project, but for each aspect of it.
3.  The old bathroom must be demolished.
4.  Concentrate on the framework of the job.
5.  Hire a good, reliable plumber.

As to that last point, if you live in Eastern Washington or Northwest Idaho there is one clear choice.  They are the bathroom remodeling professionals at A River City Plumbing.  Dan and his crew are full-service plumbing pros.  Start with a plan, then call A River City Plumbing.  That’s (509) 954-6567 in Spokane or (208) 659-6565 in Coeur D’Alene.

Keeping Your Basement Dry.

You store many of the memories of your family’s life in your basement.  If it floods, you cannot just measure the loss in dollars.  Having a sump pump installed is the least disruptive and most effective way to keep a basement dry - and keep it dry all the time!  That is the ultimate goal if you live in Spokane or Northwest Idaho…isn’t it?

Here are some of the steps in sump pump installation –

1.  Place the liner so that the pump is free of mud and debris.
2.  Install a drainage system…water in, water out.
3.  The installation of the sump pump itself.
4.  Restore the floor so that it looks as good as it ever did.
5.  Clean up after yourself.

I don’t think that most families living in our area consider this a DIY job.  That is why you call us to do the job correctly and guaranteed!  We are A River City Plumbing Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho’s full-service plumber.  We always provide fast and affordable service.  Call us at (509) 954-6567 in Spokane or (208) 659-6565 in Coeur D’Alene.

When you see those words, you may roll your eyes from time to time.  It seems like everyone claims it, but not everyone delivers.  The last thing that you need is a dispute over faulty medical care, improper car repair, a poorly fixed air conditioning unit, and bad plumbing repair which leaves you with a bigger problem than the one with which you started.

Summertime…Kitchen Time.

Guess what area of your home will get the biggest workout in the months to come?  Probably it will be your kitchen.  Kids will be tracking in and out and looking for mid-day snacks.  That kitchen of yours could get quite a workout this summer!  How prepared are you for this influx of activity?

Here are some tips as it pertains to installing a new kitchen sink –

1.  The hot and cold water lines must be turned off completely.
2.  Turn ON the faucet to relieve pressure.
3.  Use adjustable wrenches to disconnect the water supply lines.
4.  Unplug the garbage disposal.
5.  Remove the dishwasher drain line.

Do you want to do all of this yourself?  That may be penny-wise and pound foolish.  Even if you are handy there is quite a margin for error.  Why not trust the kitchen remodeling professionals at A River City Plumbing?  In the Coeur d'Alene and Spokane areas that is the right call!  Those numbers are (509) 954-6567 in Spokane or (208) 659-6565 in Idaho.

Taking our Garbage Disposal for Granted.

We are all guilty of it…that reliable appliance keeps gobbling up gook for years, then suddenly it is not quite as efficient as it once was.  Appliances in general don’t last forever, but sometimes it’s hard to know when to replace one instead of repairing it.  With garbage disposals there are some distinct signs to look and listen for.

If you notice any of the following, take action –

1.  Frequent clogging (it may not be that noticeable at first)
2.  Need to run water many seconds after use
3.  Even when you cut up items into small pieces it still clogs
4.  Maybe the current unit just is not big enough for your family’s needs

These are all good reasons to consider that it is time to replace that hard-working garbage disposal that has served your family faithfully for years.  The next step is to call A River City Plumbing.  They have been serving the Coeur d'Alene, Spokane, and surrounding area for many years.  Call one of these numbers (509) 954-6567 in Spokane or (208) 659-6565 in Idaho.

It’s a Gas!

No, it isn’t.  It is fun hooking up gas lines in your home.  It is, however a necessity that needs to be done by a professional.  Believe me when I tell you that installing a gas line is definitely not a task to take on as sort of a fun do-it-yourself project.  The risks of making a mistake outweigh the costs of hiring a pro.

Just so you will know, here are some of the steps –

1.  You need the exact fittings for the job.
2.  The gas must be turned off before it all begins.
3.  Extend lines so that it fits to your appliances.
4.  Spread the right measure of water and dish soap.  That’s a strange one…isn’t it?

The bottom line is that this is a tricky procedure that could become dangerous if mistakes are made.  That’s where A River City Plumbing comes in.  When gas lines need to be installed in the Coeur d'Alene, Spokane, and surrounding area please give us a call first.  Those phone numbers are (509) 954-6567 in Spokane or (208) 659-6565 in Idaho.

Makin’ Bacon.

Where do you spend a couple of hours each day?  Why, the kitchen, of course.  Have you thought recently about remodeling or having something repaired within that domain?  Before you begin to rip out cabinets or going out looking for new appliances it is important to ask some specific questions.

For example –

1.  Are you loving it or leaving it?  If you are planning on moving that is a different issue.
2.  What does your kitchen mean to your family?
3.  Did you just move into the home?
4.  What is your budget?  No kidding!

These and many other questions may be best answered with the help of a professional.  A River City Plumbing serving Spokane, Coeur d'Alene, and the surrounding area is our kitchen remodeling expert.  Your vision begins with you and becomes the project of A River City Plumbing Service.  Give them a call at (509) 954-6567 in Spokane or (208) 659-6565 in Idaho.

Installing a Tub and Shower.

When you think of your master bathroom how do you see it?  Is it just a necessity, or is it a haven where the best of the day begins and ends?  Some of us view our bathroom as our “my time” room and it needs to be special.  When you have a new tub and shower installed it really brightens things up.

Before you start, you'll want to install separate 3/4-inch lines to supply the shower. This extra step ensures good water pressure and protects you from temperature changes when another faucet is turned on or the toilet tank refills.  That’s a wake-up call you don’t need! You'll want to tap into the cold and hot water lines as close to the water heater as possible.

It all begins with a call to A River City Plumbing.  They are the masters of shower and tub installation in Spokane, Coeur d'Alene, and the surrounding area.  Please give the bathroom professionals a call and transform the beginning and end of each day into the best parts of it.
Those numbers are (509) 954-6567 in Spokane or (208) 659-6565 in Idaho.

Hooking up Gas Lines.

It sounds potentially dangerous, doesn’t it?  Don’t take it lightly…it definitely is!  Installing a gas line is definitely not a task to take on as your first do-it-yourself project.  It should go without saying that the risks of making a mistake outweigh the costs of hiring a professional.  We want to give you a quick and partial tutorial of how it is done.

1.  You must be sure that you have the right fittings for the job.
2.  The gas to your house needs to be turned off.
3.  The valves must be properly fitted so that they match up to your appliance(s).
4.  Spread a mixture of dish liquid to water over each seam.
5.  Correctly make the connection.

It is all in the training and the experience.  In the Coeur d'Alene/Spokane areas it has been done successfully over and over again by the crew at A River City Plumbing Service.  Don’t even think about tackling this task yourself!  Always call the area’s gas line hook-up professionals at A River City Plumbing (509) 954-6567 in Spokane or (208) 659-6565 in Idaho.

How Often Should My Drains be Cleaned?

Good question, it is one of the tenants of responsible home ownership.  Healthy drains are a crucial part of any functioning plumbing system.  Think of a blocked drain this way; they aren’t only messy and unappealing, but they can also lead to various severe problems — such as bacteria and germs, and even structural damage!

Perhaps the most crucial reason to schedule regular drain cleaning is to help prevent major plumbing emergencies from occurring throughout your home.   Frequent drain cleaning helps to improve the lifespan of your plumbing system.  Invite a licensed plumber into your home to check your drains on a regular basis.

If you live in Spokane, Coeur d'Alene, and the surrounding area the choice is easy.  Call A River City Plumbing.  For a limited time they are offering $40 off for any drain cleaning review.  Do not let a clogged drain ruin your happy home!  Before any potential disaster strikes call A River City Plumbing.  Those numbers are (509) 954-6567 in Spokane or (208) 659-6565 in Idaho.

What is Hydronic Heating.

This is not exactly a topic that pops up during cocktail parties.  What do you think of the current political climate?  I don’t know, but I am concerned about my hydronic heating!  If you are a home or business owner you merely are concerned about comfort.  In all seasons, that is what matters most.

Hydronics is defined as the use of a liquid heat-transfer medium in heating and cooling systems. The working fluid is typically water, glycol, or mineral oil. Some of the older and most common examples are steam and hot-water radiators.  It simply heats water and moves it through sealed pipes to radiators throughout the home.

So, whom in the Spokane and the Coeur d’Alene area is an expert in the area of hydronic heating.  No surprise here…it is Dan and his professional crew at A River City Plumbing.  When the issue in your home is hydronic heating, pick up the phone for a visit from Dan.  Call (509) 954-6567 before the problem gets out of hand.

Yikes…Where’s the Hot Water?

Homes don’t function without hot water, so how is your water heater doing these days?  How often do you think that your water heater should be inspected?  Whether you knew this or not, it depends on the number of people who live in your household.  Most of us don’t give that fact enough consideration, but we should!

If only one or two people live in your home, then your water heater should be inspected every 6 months and drained every year.  If three or more people reside in your castle, then it should be checked out every quarter.  Now, be honest, who among us are that conscientious about their water heaters?

I know someone who is.  They are Spokane’s, Coeur d’Alene and Post Falls area water heater inspection, repair, and replacement professionals.  They are the great crew at A River City Plumbing Service.  Please visit the new website at http://www.arivercityplumbingservice.com/ to see the full range of plumbing services that they offer.  Then call (509) 954-6567 in Spokane or (208) 659-6565 in Idaho for their expertise.
